Planting a Japanese Microforest at Kings Meadow

This spring, something special took root in Kings Meadow Park: a Japanese-style microforest. With the help of dedicated volunteers and the incredible support of Idverde, we planted hundreds of native trees and shrubs, creating a thriving pocket of biodiversity right here in Bromley.

Microforests, inspired by the Miyawaki method developed in Japan, are designed to grow quickly, restore ecosystems, and provide long-term benefits for both people and wildlife. By planting densely and using a mix of carefully selected species, the forest will establish itself much faster than traditional tree planting—offering shade, cleaner air, habitats for birds and pollinators, and a beautiful space for the community to enjoy.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who gave their time, energy, and heart to this project. From local residents to Idverde’s amazing team, your commitment has made this vision a reality. This microforest isn’t just about trees—it’s about community, care, and the future of our shared green spaces.

As the saplings grow, so too will our connection to this land and to one another. Kings Meadow’s microforest is a gift to future generations, and we can’t wait to watch it flourish.
